SDG Family Research – Customised to meet your needs
Services
Tracing a family line
There is no standard time for tracing back a family line as some will be easier than others depending on factors such as rarity of name, location they lived in and amount of base information you can provide to start the search with.Typically tracing back a couple of lines 3 generations to the 18th century could cost around £500.
Any search can be customised as required determined by your needs and how much you want to invest in it.
Your family history can be provided in a printed ring bound copy.
See our fixed price packages or contact us to discuss your needs.
Problem solving
Sometimes you can hit a dead end or have so much information it is difficuly to find clarity and sort the wood from the trees. We have membership access to multiple genealogical websites and other archive resources so maybe can access material you can’t and be able to find additional information for you.
Or perhaps you just need a fresh eye to review the material you have and help to analyse the data you have got.
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee to resolve your problems, but it mght help to give some alternative views and routes to investigate or confirm your own theories.
See our fixed price packages or contact us to discuss your needs.
Local Archive Access
Living in West Sussex we have ready access to archives in West and East Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey. For the cost of time, travel plus incidental expenses (costs incurred at the sites e.g. document copying) we could access them on your behalf.
Contact us to discuss.
Charges
Genealogical research can be simple or complex so there is no fixed package to give you a defined set of results, so we have to charge by the hour; currently this is £25. This does not include any expenses incurred e.g. cost of certificates, cost of travel etc. and these will be charged separately as required. Of course the actual time research takes could be weeks or months depending on amount of data to analyse, waiting for documentation etc. but you will only be charged for the actual time dedicated to your case.
An initial consultation of up to45 minutes will be provided free of charge to assess your needs and determine the scope of work to be undertaken and its estimated time and cost so that you can assess how much you wish to invest at any one time.

Case Studies

Case Study A
A client had little knowledge of her family history, her mother never talked about them or herself and she knew few relatives. What she did have was a collection of postcards collected by her aunt from the start of the 20th Century. Not only did this provide an insight into daily family life as the daughters dispersed around the country working in service for various families, it also served as a marvellous means of verifying information found and identifying the fate of relatives between censuses.
Never underestimate the value of family documents and heirlooms, they often provide hidden clues.
Case Study B
A relative remembered a family member being lost during the war, but not who or which war. Accessing the local newspaper archives identifies the individual and validates other family information. Accessing archive information from The National Archives also provided fascinating information of another family member nursing during World War I.
Archive information is an essential tool for genealogists from medieval times to the 20th Century.

My aunt and uncle have already said “The family tree gets more and more interesting!!!“

From a few random names and a set of postcards and knowing very little I now have ancestral lines reaching back over the centuries and showing me my geographical roots.
All the loose ends have finally been tied up!
